What’s on in Italy? Umbria Jazz Festival
This years annual festival is full of diverse and exciting performers which range from the classic era to present day. One of the the most important jazz festivals in the world has been held since 1973 in Perugia, Italy. Since then every summer during the second and third weeks of July, thousands of visitors from all over the world, where they can share their passion for music. Interestingly enough, the Umbria Jazz festival started as a ‘travelling’ festival and has only been static since the late 90’s.
Its importance is witnessed by the artists that have played on the Festival’s stage in the past years – jazz legends such as Ornette Coleman, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis amongst the others, joined by famous bluesmen as B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, James Brown and Eric Clapton. Whilst predominately a jazz festival, fans will also be able to see a wide plethora of different music genres including artists from rock and roll, world music, Cuban salsa and African tribal music backgrounds.
One must not forget the unique feature of the Umbria Jazz Festival, that is the link between music and good food and wine – true Italian style.
